The Fabulous Piglini

The Fabulous Piglini

Piglini, the piglet magician, and his tigress friend Sara, use mesmerizing tricks, hilarious transformations, and the magic of kindness to safeguard Sparklytown from the egocentric performer, Lebrun.

Piglini, the piglet magician, and his tigress friend Sara use mesmerising tricks, hilarious transformations and the magic of kindness to safeguard Sparklytown from the egocentric performer, LeBrun. However, the boastful Lebrun threatens to spoil the party with his vain attempts to show off. Piglini and Sara are here to save the day, in their unique and comical way. Each episode, Piglini uses his heroic heart-vision to guide his way and, with his sharp-witted sidekick Sara, comes up with absurdly amusing and incredibly imaginative magic, that brings joy to citizens of Sparklytown and keeps LeBrun from making a fool of himself again!

Director’s statement
The Fabulous Piglini" is a project I fell in love with instantly. It encapsulates everything I believe in: creativity is a means to overcome difficulties and can change the world for the better. Piglini is the small me that still lives within, often peeking into this world, and when it does, my best work emerges. Piglini speaks the language of art—a language that doesn't require formal learning. Any child can pick up a pencil or move to the music and communicate with another child without speaking the same verbal language. Through art, he can turn enemies into friends and even change the hearts of hardened, foolish adults like LeBrun! Engaging them in his play and making them forget pride, stereotypes, and all the other nonsense that poisons our world.

Total Eclipse

Potpuno pomračenje

The Total Solar Eclipse of 1999 was unusually received in Yugoslavia: emergency measures introduced to protect the population from the harmful effects of the Eclipse, led to a day-long total lockdown.

Nemanja was an 8 year-old on a school trip, when he had to spend an entire day locked up in a dark hotel, with nothing to do but watch Schwarzenegger's Commando on repeat. Milijana, a bank clerk, was released from work early: getting home through the deserted streets of Belgrade became the only memory of her 50th birthday. In a small Serbian village, Kristina interviewed locals preparing for a doomsday - the end of the world. The phones in the National Observatory were buzzing with calls from concerned citizens. All TV channels urged citizens to take special protection measures. Yugoslav Aerotransport flights were canceled that day, and the entire country entered a total lockdown. This is what the Total Solar Eclipse on August 11, 1999, looked like in Yugoslavia. 23 years later, 5 witnesses reconstruct their memories of the Eclipse, wondering whether the mass fear it caused was a consequence of the traumatic bombing just 2 months before, or an (un)intentional public media experiment.

Director’s statement
The eclipse lockdown of ‘99 is one of my most vivid childhood memories. Yet, for many years, I wasn’t sure whether I entirely made it up. It became especially relevant during the COVID lockdowns when I began interviewing friends: our childhood memories of abandoned streets, closed shutters, and "experts" on the TV, predicting the end of the world, were stunningly similar. Interestingly, during the bombing of Yugoslavia 2 months earlier, mass public gatherings and concerts were organized during daily air raids.

In this animated doc, I explore the mechanisms of media manipulation, mass-madness and myth-making, and look into the collective trauma through individual recollections and public archives of one perplexing, collectively shared experience.

With the ease that comes with the passage of time, in an occasionally humorous manner, I ask a relevant question: What circumstances lead to such an "anomaly event," and what factors made us so vulnerable and compliant?

Money and Happiness

O novcu i sreći

The hamsters live and work in Hamsterland, a perfect state with a perfect economy.

The hamsters live and work in Hamsterland, a perfect state with a perfect economy. The GDP grows steadily, there is no unemployment, and 100 % of the population declare themselves to be happy. Of course, just as in any attempt to arrange a perfect society by force, the world of the hamsters also has its dark side, which we gradually discover in the course of the film.

Director’s statement
It is more than obvious, to more and more people, that today’s dominant concept of the economy, in which money is the primary goal, is not sustainable. An economy that measures its success in GDP is often insensitive to the real happiness of the people. We decided to create a satirical model of the ideal economy in the form of an animated film. This choice of subject stems from strong personal motivation: an attempt to confront the traumas of life on a treadmill of earning and spending money. In today’s world awash with real documentary images, we can more easily reach the viewer by creating stylised, animated worlds, and start a discussion on subjects we believe important. After the films Rabbitland, an experiment with the meaning of democracy today, and Untravel, which looks at state borders and isolation, Money and Happiness is a logical progression for us and a challenge for our small team specialised in creating dystopian worlds by modelling clay.

New Rabbitland

New Rabbitland

Zek, an optimistic pink rabbit, lives in a small isolated country Rabbitland and dreams about a better life in a future prestigious neighbourhood called New Rabbitland. But when a disastrous truth about the construction of New Rabbitland starts to unveil, Zek’s illusions about her life, her country and her family all start to crumble and she has to choose how and where she sees her future.

Director’s statement
Although NEW RABBITLAND is still in development, we have a clear vision of the final look of the film. It is an animated drama, characterised by a lot of dark humour and irony. A film which should be dynamic and entertaining at the same time, as well as addressing important social issues. It will be made as a stop-motion animation. Plasticine puppets are usually expected to be passive, cute and lovable, not to start revolutions. Our puppet world is different. Our puppets are active political subjects.

Hide and Seek

Жмурка

A fairytale(ish) childhood is shattered when a young boy learns that the family’s baby brother was not taken from them in the way they thought.

Vladimir, a young boy growing up in Belgrade in the 90s, is shaken when he learns that the firstborn baby boy of the family, once thought dead at birth, was actually stolen by the hospital crew and sold elsewhere. Ever since, he never stopped looking for him.

Director’s statement
My parents also lost their first born. Although my sister really died at birth, some of my parent’s actions were affected by the loss.
Being Vladimir’s fiancée has made me a part of the Dimoski family, and thus understand their approach to life. They turn life’s struggles into a game - something which I use to set the story.
I want to explore poetically the innocence of the soul just moments before one of those painful truths grabs one by the shoulders. The expressionist animation (80% of the film) is perfect medium for that, while the documentary part (20%) proves that the trauma is ongoing.

The Hive

Kako je nastao pčelinjak

Before the first hive, young bee Jana must find a way to unite the bees and save them from the greedy bears.

Long ago, before the first hive, the bees were divided, controlled and managed by deceitful bears. A honey tribute was used to keep the bees in line, busy and obedient. The story follows the naive bee Jana who selflessly helps young Sophie to make the necessary honey. Jana and Sophie make friends with the curious bee Johnny who eventually falls in love with Jana. They work together, but the group is betrayed to the bears by the older bee Mara, and consequently, the tribute is raised until even organised bees cannot make enough honey. Jana is blamed for the crisis even by Sophie and Johnny, who abandons the group. Discovering the bears’ true motives, Mara realises her mistake and sacrifices herself to encourage the bees to fight back. Along with Johnny and Sophie, the bees seek Jana to lead a rebellion against the bears and their tyranny. Finally free, the bees get to decide their way of life. Jana proposes the creation of the hive, and the bees choose her to become the first queen.

Director’s statement
I feel a deep connection to The Hive's story, and its theme keeps me attracted, giving me the resolve to move forward. As the project's potential was recognised by the Film Center of Serbia and the biggest local distributor, MCF MegaCom Films, we saw an opportunity to bring a fresh story to whole families. The Hive will entertain and also communicate a powerful message to its viewers. Although we are currently searching for the film's director, I strongly believe that based on the international co-production, The Hive is going to achieve great results with its modest budget.

Disbalance

Disbalans

A mysterious man with amnesia called Who wakes up in the surreal world Disbalance. In his journey to discover the truth about his identity, he unlocks the mystery of the world’s existence.

The End of the World is the name of a bar set in an analogue TV, where all the strange customers go about their usual business. But when a mysterious man suffering from amnesia called Who appears, weird things start to happen, plunging the world of Disbalance into total chaos. The fact that there's no evidence that he ever existed is very strange since he finds himself in a futuristic world of mass surveillance. Being watched all the time makes him paranoid, especially the impossibility of staying anonymous. And while everyone around him is so obsessed with their virtual personas, Who is just trying to find himself.

Director’s statement
The idea behind Disbalance is to speak about human stories in the virtual world. People are escaping reality and hiding in their own worlds. But the consequences of modern technology, such as social media's impact on mental health, are one of the reasons why the world we tend to escape to is dangerous. I find myself struggling for identity in the digital age and what I'm seeking to do in the series is to capture the impact of modern living on people, especially young adults. This is a series that addresses the fundamental issue of this age: who are we in this fakery.

Starting their life together, far from the world, a young couple - she and he - discover a mysterious switch.

The plot of "Switch" follows the relationship of a young couple, who begin to build their life together far from the world. The discovery of a mysterious switch, hidden under the ivy of a tree trunk near by, unlocks their inner aspirations, desires and longings. Within time the love fades away and the two characters grow distant and alienated from each other.

Director’s statement
The development, dynamics and complexity of the relationship between a woman and a man is a topic of unceasing interest to me. Harmonious relationships in an intimate partnership are the engine of human happiness. However, they are often too difficult to achieve when two people share their daily lives for years. They are placed under the pressure of personal differences, selfishness, egocentrism, negation, fear and emptiness, leading to emotional withdrawal and destruction. "Switch" aims to explore and show the philosophical aspect of the ideal and complete love, which is impossible without intimacy, warmth, sharing and passion.

Twice Upon a Time

Bio dvaput jedan kralj

Nika, a 9-year-old princess, is trying to save her father Poet King from his archenemy Warrior King. The only problem is that these two kings are actually one man.

Nika is a spoiled 9-year-old princess of a paper kingdom who thinks the world is spinning around her. Many years after her mother’s death, Nika is still trying to win the attention of her always absent father – Poet King. She lies about Dragon's appearance, fakes her own kidnapping and ends up being actually kidnapped only to realise that her father’s absence and neglect is due to his rivalry with his split personality – Warrior King. Nika now has to save herself, save her kingdom and help her father overcome his inner conflict.

Director’s statement
Two kings in one are fighting for predominance, revealing to us the world that always has the flip side of the coin. This film speaks about duality rather than the split-nature of the world. My wish is for the audience to feel the connection and identification with the young rebel Nika, but also with both kings (or both sides of the king) at different moments. The King is not vicious in his intentions, but more so unhappily finding himself in situations obviously unable to solve on his own, and there is the pure and curious Nika to help him. In Twice Upon A Time, the audience can find themselves in conflicting aspirations, phobias and games that the characters play, but one can also find a strong family story about support and overcoming the loss. The film’s theme addresses a general issue of contradictions of mankind – wishes that are both good and bad, times that are both happy and sad, inner voices that puzzle our mind, and the never-ending duality of mankind.

Deleted

Deleted

In the far future Alex rebels against the system led by Artificial Intelligence in a quest to find his virtual woman Sophia in reality, among the deleted humans in the underground caves.

Deleted is a hybrid, 3d animation/live action, dystopian movie, set in the caves of the far future. Planet is polluted and humans live underground, under the command of centralized AI. Alex and Sophia are in love, expecting to make it official, but Sophia is not selected by AI for further reproduction. Alex sacrifices his virtual life to go after her. In the underworld, where cleaners turn deleted people into the ashes, he survives by joining a rebel group. But he leaves them in order to finally find Sophia among believers, who claim that God, and not Artificial Intelligence made human kind. But their happiness doesn't last long. Ultimately two of them are forced into coming out to the surface of the world, where, alone in the radioactive, but magnificent nature they discover their own world.

Director’s statement
I want to send a message from the distant future to the audience. To show how the world we live looks from that perspective. Will our advance result in the loss of the highest human value, the freedom!? And could we avoid it? The question of whether there is a way out for all of them living in futuristic caves is a metaphysical one and brings us back into the present, where the answer lies. For them, our present is virtual reality, and that is why a part of the film is live-action, with overacting action. While their reality appears like actual video games, with realistic 3D characters. Even though the action takes place in the future, our present life is the main topic and I want to tell the story about the very actual subject of erasing the borders between real and virtual, digital life, and its consequences and solutions. And the focus is on the love story, between two suffering individuals, our descendants. The story of love and freedom. Now and then.
