Like every other industry, animation has an environmental footprint – from energy consumption to the materials used in physical production, every step of the creative process impacts the planet.
Whether we discuss digital workflows or stop-motion projects involving physical puppets, props, and sets, it all adds up to affect our environment in some way. The more we acknowledge this – by measuring and understanding our impact – the more urgent it becomes to find sustainable ways of working that still preserve the essence of what we do.
On this platform, we will bring together existing structures, tools, and initiatives from across Europe and worldwide that support the animation industry´s green transition. We will share with you the past and ongoing research and frameworks shaping the future of sustainable animation. You will also find case studies and insights from productions and creators who are already leading the way.
CEE Animation is a proud member of the Green Animation Working Group, which aims to agree on universal standards for a sustainable animation industry. Formed by Ecoprod (France), Green Film (Italy) and CineRegio – a network of over 50 European regional film funds – this group develops a set of practical, verifiable, and adaptable criteria that can serve as a common standard for the sector. Here, we will keep you updated on their latest progress and actions.
