Animation and Film studio – Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague (UMPRUM)
Czechia
Exploration, experimentation, animation, audiovisual work, short film, artistic solutions, seeking and finding—joy! The Animation and Film Studio at the Academy of Art, Architecture, and Design in Prague (UMPRUM), established in 1951, holds the distinction of being the oldest in the Czech Republic. While it values and builds upon tradition, the studio actively explores formal crossovers and pushes the boundaries of animation through experimentation with audiovisual works. The Studio offers a space to engage with traditional techniques alongside contemporary forms and technologies. Students are guided not only in creating auteur films but also in understanding animation as a medium with diverse applications — such as music videos, trailers, motion design, games, interactive outputs, and installations. UMPRUM's interdisciplinary environment supports collaboration across fine and applied arts, encouraging experimentation in both content and form.
