Nothing is Happening

Nic se neděje

A story about a man to whom nothing seems to happen – but the truth is, far too much is happening to him.

Boris, an insecure and nervous young man, sets out on his first long train journey. At first, it seems like a simple ride from point A to point B—but gradually, everything begins to spiral out of control. Problems start piling up: a seemingly lost ticket, a strange fellow traveler, noisy tourists, and a persistent snack vendor—all escalating to grotesque proportions. The faster the train speeds ahead, the more wildly Boris’s inner crisis unfolds. A small fly—an apparent trifle that flew into the compartment at the beginning of the journey—turns out to be a subtle omen of the surreal events to come. Instead of the calm trip he imagined, Boris finds himself in an absurd, chaotic whirlwind where the line between reality and illusion begins to blur. How will he handle it? Can he distinguish real problems from mere trivialities? And how—or even if—will he survive his first big journey?

Director’s statement
The idea for Nothing Happens was born out of a personal experience with anxiety and the feeling of losing control over seemingly ordinary situations. Sometimes, small issues pile up and start to feel like an unbearable burden—until our perception of reality becomes distorted by fear and stress. After the war in Ukraine began, my mother called me and said: “Don’t worry, there’s a war, but nothing terrible is happening.” That sentence stuck with me. Despite the unimaginable situation, she remained calm and strong. Her words became a symbol of inner resilience—a reminder that how we choose to see the world often shapes how we experience it. With this film, I wanted to explore the thin line between real events and our subjective perception of them. Through a playful, absurd, and visually dynamic form, I tell the story of a young man who gets lost in his own inner chaos. His journey by train becomes a metaphor for the psychological journey many of us face when anxiety takes over.
