Cosmonauts

Kozmonavti

On an intergalactic singles cruise, Delfino, Zenf, and Rita confront their loneliness.

Follow three lonely passengers, Delfino, Zenf, and Rita, on the intergalactic singles cruise, the Pompelmo Express, in search of sex and pleasure in this animated mockumentary. As they journey, the Cosmonauts discover their relationship with love and are surprised at what they are willing to do to experience it, even if it's just with the tip of their pinky finger. Delfino is a naive and chubby man who constantly dresses in BDSM clothes. He believes in true and authentic love to the point that he falls in love with an inanimate flower that he calls Carlos. Rita, an older cleaning lady, learns to love herself and dance alone. Zenf, a cynical scientist, travels to continue his research on a meteorite he calls Mariolina and is unaware that he is blindly in love with her. He is willing to change the ship's direction towards her, just to get close to her for a moment, until it crashes and explodes in the end, with her, the ship, and all the other cosmonauts.

Director’s statement
The longing and sincerity of losers is a theme that has always been very close to me, probably because I feel like one of them myself. In a society that constantly glorifies exceptional actions and exceptional people, I believe it is fair (and necessary) to turn the camera towards the majority, towards the supporting characters, towards average and lonely people, towards our weaknesses - towards us. Loneliness is one of the most universal human emotions. I would like to delve into this state, which despite its apparent negativity, can challenge us to seek alternatives and recognize what loneliness is not - recognizing love as an extremely precious experience.

Cosmonauts will be a short animated documentary film about a fictional story. I believe that in addition to the ironic tone that the film would acquire, this direction can allow viewers to gain a deeper understanding of the characters and their nuances, which would enhance their reality and humanity.
