Writing scripts for animated films is particularly challenging, going beyond basic knowledge of story structure, genre, dramaturgy, etc. It allows for a kind of freedom in the way you write. It also allows a kind of freedom in the expression and visualisation of ideas that an animation script consultant should be able to grasp and develop. The process of locking a scenario in animation before going into production involves different steps than in live action, as it includes creation of a storyboard and an animation plan, processes in which a script consultant can often take an active role.

The CEE Animation Workshop has continuously developed its educational programme over the past seven years, focusing on animation producers and their creative teams working on projects in development. Professional script consultants have been key members of the educational team. We now see an opportunity to build on the existing training structure and programme to organically involve the training of script consultants in animation.

The overall programme is set to run for two years (2026-2027). Since the training runs parallely to CEE Animation Workshop, it follows the exact same structure; it consists of four one-week workshops (modules) per year (two on-site, two online) and additional online consultations.

At the end of the two-year training programme, participants will acquire the following skills:

– In-depth understanding of the processes of writing, developing and creating animation projects,

– Extensive experience in all formats including short films, series and feature films, covering full spectrum of genres and techniques,

– Practical skills in conducting script consultations,

– Overall knowledge of the entire production cycle of animated films, from idea to distribution.

By attending all modules of the CEE Animation Workshop,  script trainees will have access to all lectures, group works and case studies, covering variety of topics from production to distribution, legal aspects, marketing, creative lectures, communication skills development, etc.

Participants who will successfully complete the two-year programme will receive an official certificate/diploma issued by CEE Animation Workshop along with letters of recommendation from industry experts.

The alumni will be given the opportunity to continue working on a selected CEE Animation Workshop project.

Networking with potential future collaborators and clients from the animation industry.

The training is open to two candidates who are committed to turn script consultancy in animation into their professional career.

We recognise that candidates (future script consultants) can come from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds and we therefore encourage anyone with a serious interest to apply. At the same time, we will be looking for specific skills, prior experience and eligibilty, including:

– Strong motivation to establish script consulting as their professional career, so that future projects in Europe and abroad can benefit from their expertise,

– Previous experience as a script consultant with desire to further develop their skills,

– Strong passion for animation and good artistic sensibilities,

– Experience in scriptwriting (writing credit on completed film) or demonstrable involvment in developing creative projects.

Note: These are not strict requirements. Applicants will be considered on the basis of their overall self-presentation, including the application, CV, previous experience, motivation letter and personal interview.

The tutors for the Script Consultant in Animation programme are Rita Domonyi and Phil Parker. Both tutors have been with the CEE Animation Workshop since its inception in 2017 and have overseen the development of almost a hundred of our alumni’s projects. Rita Domonyi, coming from Hungary and Phil Parker from UK, they bring different backgrounds, cultures and practical approaches to script consulting. They complement each other perfectly, offering the participants a very rich set of tools and know-how enabling each participant to develop their own approach.

The participation fee covers access to all four modules of the programme per year, online consulting sessions, accommodation and meals during on-site modules, and participation in the CEE Animation Forum is:

– a trainee script consultant in animation: 6.000,00 EUR for 2 years (2026 & 2027)

+ Conference fee of 300,00 EUR for each on-site module

The CEE Animation Workshop offers a limited number of scholarships. Priority will be given to participants coming from countries with low production capacity (Group A or Group B) or from a country that does not offer scholarships for this type of training, or to participants coming from countries with a proven need for financial support.
