Tulip
When Tulip decides to leave her seem "perfect" but suffocating boyfriend, she gets a first taste of freedom... and she’s completely terrified by it.
Tulip is in her twenties and feels like she's never really made a decision in her life. Angelo, her boyfriend, is perfect: emotionally available, always there for her... and above all, always there to take care of her like a doctor would treat a fragile patient. Tired of being treated like this, Tulip breaks down: Angelo is really too good for her. She leaves him. Tulip has made a decision! Hooray! She should feel liberated, but instead, all she feels is guilt, and panic... and the feeling of being a bad person. As she settles into her new apartment with a small suitcase and her very wise but also very judgmental Cat, Tulip finds deep in her things an absolutely hideous scarf, a gift from her mother... and, nestled deep within the scarf's fibers, Moth, an intrusive little pest whose sarcasm seems to give voice to Tulip's insecurities and fears.
Director’s statement
"Tulip" is inspired by a life-altering experience I had in the hospital, where I faced the possibility of death. Surprisingly, this period became one of the most transformative times of my life, leading me to embrace mindfulness and a new outlook on living. During my stay, while reflecting with a stray cat in the hospital garden, the idea for "Tulip" was born—a character navigating life’s chaos with the same newfound perspective I gained.
