What could tiramisu and mountain peaks possibly have in common?Blind runner Viktor Asenov knows the answer - and while it might take a lifetime to tell, he reveals it through one extraordinary recipe.
A human story about hardships, about the visible and the invisible, about running and conquering peaks, about having dreams and goals and trying to achieve them, told through a dessert recipe. This is a documentary animated film about Viktor Asenov, a blind ultramarathon runner who loves running, cycling, and most of all — eating desserts. He describes himself as persistent, determined, and very loud — just like the movie “Tiramisu” — because life is a mixture of sugar, everyday struggles, mascarpone, the strength of the human spirit, a shot of espresso, loud laughter, and a little bit of cocoa on top. Viktor knows that there are things you have to fight for, and things that are worth fighting for. Blindness is not a disability — it is a different point of view.
Director’s statement
We are Kalina and Aleksa, master’s students in Animation Directing at New Bulgarian University. In our work, we explore real human stories and refract them through the prism of animation. This is how we found Viktor Asenov—a blind ultrarunner who conquers mountain peaks, completes Everesting challenge and fights for better conditions for guide dogs in Bulgaria. We met him by chance, then again until it became clear that this story had found us too.“Tiramisu” is a short animated documentary about Viktor’s life:about endurance, activism, humor and his love for desserts. It is a story about the bittersweet taste of life—like a recipe for tiramisu—where fresh mountain air meets broken city streets that make everyday movement difficult for blind people. The film combines painting over live footage and pastel on paper.Sound design plays a central role, making the film accessible to blind audiences and offering sighted viewers a new perspective.
