Oscar is an ordinary boy with an extraordinary wooden phone. He can talk to inanimate things on it: Hello!
OSCAR (7) must spend the summer at his GRANNY’S house in the country. It might seem like a wonderful opportunity for the two of them to get to know each other better ‒ except the boy finds his grandmother hopelessly old-fashioned and boring, just like all the things at her home. Overwhelmed by boredom, Oscar makes himself a TOY PHONE out of a log he has found in the shed. Much to his surprise, Oscar discovers that on this phone, he can call any objects he can find in Granny’s house and garden, from her iron to a rusty bike. Furthermore, he can chat with them and offer his help in various important ‘matters of life’: show a chair ‘the world’, become a ‘dentist’ that fixes a rake’s tooth, and introduce the broom to its close relative, the toothbrush. The miraculous wooden device makes the boy’s monotonous days more exciting and meaningful. Besides, through this world of things, Oscar gets to know his Granny and now is ready to become friends with her.
