Dolphin Kicks

Dolphin Kicks

An awkward synchronization swimmer is out of sync with her teammates. Bonded together by long-term training, their loyalty is put to the test when a gang of roller skaters invade their swimming pool.

"A team of four synchronization swimmers fiercely refine their technique, while one of them is not quite in sync with the others. She feels awkward about the delays and is unsure how to confront the group. This relationship unravels in the symbolic, dreamlike space of the swimming pool, the only place where they can practice. Their fragile world is disrupted by three rollerbladers, loud and charged with restless energy. The rollerbladers purposefully empty the pool and the world of the four swimmers is shattered. The two group’s conflicting need for the pool highlight the tension between them. The swimmers want revenge. Beneath the tension curiosity simmers. The main character feels a magnetic pull toward the mystical rollerbladers. She is confronted by a fear of betraying the loyalty of her own group and destroying the perfect balance in the team. Nevertheless she decides to be in sync with her own heart."

Director’s statement
Through this project, I want to explore connection and the possibility of rebuilding friendship amid the uncertainty of change. I often think about how difficult it is to truly follow your heart, especially while fearing drifting away from the people we love.

The film’s rhythm is shaped by the interactions between the characters. I want to use their physicality to express emotion, and realise this film as an absurd comedy.

The visual design highlights the character’s body expression and the surreal possibilities of the narrative. Two opposing musical themes further emphasise the contrast between the two groups.

For the past six years I've been working alongside Vessela Dantcheva from Compote Collective, who is the producer of my film Balconada. We have a strong professional bond and plan to realise Dolphin Kicks together.

I'm inspired to continue working on the script and visual research, and would greatly value the chance to present it at the CEE Animation Forum 2026.
