Why Adult Animation, Why Now? A Broadcaster Takes the Risk

At public broadcasters, animation has traditionally been associated primarily with children’s content. So why would a public broadcaster decide to take the risk and invest in animation for young adults and adults now?

Jarmo Lampela, Head of Drama at Yle, will take us behind the decision to co-produce Belzebubs and explore what lies behind a broadcaster’s move into animation for young adults and adults. Why this project? How does a broadcaster assess the potential of adult animation? Where is the market heading? And as audiences, platforms and content strategies continue to evolve, could adult animation become a more significant part of the European television landscape?
