There is an adventuress in every one of us.
The main heroine, eight-year-old Martha, is a girl's embodiment of a famous underwater researcher Captain Gusto. Martha is lucky to be spending the summer holidays with her Aunt at the Oceanographic Museum where the unexpected awaits her. During her journey, she will show us that faith and determination alone are not enough. It is also important to find the right partners because without them no adventure would be a real adventure like they write about in books. Martha, Oscar the Cat and Mrs. Octopus form an inseparable trio that sets out to explore an unknown underwater world with us.
Director’s statement
When designing the main characters, the important task was to create seemingly disparate worlds, which, however, can complement each other in unexpected ways. The visual connection of a little girl, a furry cat and a huge watery octopus should therefore prepare the audience that this group will not experience something ordinary and their interaction will bring absurdity and wit to the story.
The main animal characters are slightly grotesque, but
nevertheless, they should still retain all the key features of real animals. An essential element is therefore the work with the degree of artistic stylization. Our goal is to acquaint children with the rich world of ocean life, and therefore it is important to always keep individual animal characters in a form where they can be easily recognizable and true to the actual animal at certain points.
The story is situated not only underwater but also at the Oceanographic Museum in a coastal area.
