The Last Shift

IS HUMANITY WORTH SAVING?

Planet Earth is right at the point before destruction. No one cares though, everybody's having a good time. Party will continue on the Moon, where Humanity is soon about to begin the grandiose relocation. The Earth Keeper is not celebrating, there is a lot of Planet maintenance to do like repairing the playground sinking into lava etc. He is carrying out his tasks, then suddenly receives The Last Mission "UNPLUG BRAIN". The Brain is an organic AI supercomputer built by humans to get rid of their own responsibility. The ingenious redemption plan of Humanity’s relocation to the Moon originally constructed by The Brain is actually his devilish plan. He is revealing to Earth Keeper that the only way to save the Planet is destroying mankind. Earth Keeper is waking up at home feeling that it was just a dream. He is deciding to stay on Earth whether the story will finish with the fireworks of falling rockets or not, he is going to have a load of work on Earth and completing his Last Mission.

Director’s statement
How did we get here? Personally, I’m impressed by the human desire to always run away from their problems and responsibilities, eternally delegating it to someone (or something) else. Eventful history of the 20th century should warn and fundamentally guide us to learn from past mistakes, which doesn’t actually happen. This is why we are creating a world of the Last Days on Earth with two-headed giraffes and people drawing water and nutrients from the dying whales, surrounded by the majestic space rockets temples, which symbolize hope for an optimistic future. It's an absurd grim humour allegorical world that should seriously kick the viewer's ass. Short film will be created with the use of digital cut out animation technique based on a vector illustration by Jan Šrámek, my long term collaborator. Cut out technique in combination with illustrative visuals will allow us to freely move from technicist visual compositions to create an absurd puppet theater and support the story narrative.
