Mould

Plíseň

A spooky detective mini-series about animal friends investigating the disappearance of one of them. As their apartment building is slowly swallowed by mould, only friendship and humour can help solve the case—because old wounds can be more haunting than ghosts.

Four animal friends - Lea, Stevie, Eddie and Amy - spend their summer roaming the forest behind their old, mould-infested apartment building. On Eddie’s birthday, they build a treehouse where Stevie tells a chilling legend about a hunter, a missing woman, and a secret hidden beneath their home. The next morning, Eddie disappears without a trace. As the others search for him, strange events spread through the house: neighbours whisper behind closed doors, shadows move through the basement, and black mould slowly crawls across the walls as if feeding on the building’s buried secrets. The deeper the children investigate, the more they uncover long-hidden fears, grief and family wounds no one dared to face. To find Eddie, they must confront the darkness haunting both the house and themselves - and finally bring the hidden truth to light.

Director’s statement
I have carried the world of Mould within me for many years. From the beginning, I wanted to create the kind of story I was drawn to as a child — mysterious, slightly unsettling, and filled with things children perhaps are “not supposed to see,” yet instinctively long to explore. Through this series, I want to embrace the perspective of children who dare to enter places adults avoid, transforming fear, curiosity and imagination into a thrilling detective adventure. At its core, Mould is first and foremost a suspenseful mystery series for children. Beneath this adventure, however, lies another layer intended for adult viewers — a story about generational trauma, alcoholism and domestic violence buried so deeply within a community that adults themselves are no longer able to confront it. I believe that only children’s curiosity, honesty and determination can bring these hidden wounds to light and begin breaking the cycle.
