Having escaped the pits of substance abuse, lovers Lindo and Beaux seek refuge in a dream of love and solitude—until the harsh tides of war and climate collapse tear through their fragile sanctuary
Lindo and Beaux, longtime lovers still deeply in love, have grown even closer after Beaux’s recent journey to sobriety. On a sunny Sunday morning, they wake up in each other’s arms, reminiscing about the moments that brought them together. As they share memories and vulnerabilities, they build a fantastical private sanctuary of love—a romantic picnic, an underwater paradise, a boat ride in an extravagant fountain—one that is impervious to the outside world. At times however, Beaux is pulled into his reality, one with wars happening elsewhere and landscapes destroyed by the climate crisis. In one fleeting moment of fantasy, Beaux checks his phone and is struck by an image of a father mourning his child dead in his arms, victim of a terrible war crime. Confusion and distress grip him, but a message from Lindo saying : “Hi, I love you,” pulls him back into their dreamlike cocoon. They’ve survived so much together—how can they now face the threats of the outside world?
