Chemodan

Čemodan

A young linen merchant from a small town in the Bohemian mountains is drafted and sent to fight in the Eastern Front of World War I. Based on actual events of director`s great-grand father.

In 1916, Josef, a young Czech legionnaire in the Austro-Hungarian army, is at the Russian border. He has just been accepted to officers’ school, far from the fighting. His false friend Modráček forces him to celebrate. The following morning, Josef is awakened by the sound of a train departing. He finds out that the night’s adventure has left him all dirty and that Modráček is gone, along with Josef‘s acceptance certificate. Josef’s story takes an unexpected turn and he’s forced to re-evaluate his life and become a person who puts helping others above military orders.
