Brother Deer

Bijeli jelen

A lonely city boy and a wild forest girl form an unlikely bond across the boundaries of species, language, and fear — in a forest where animals speak, secrets hide, and not all humans are welcome.

Set in the crumbling White Deer Lodge, deep in a forgotten mountain range, this serialized story follows Howl, a quiet 10-year-old boy longing to return to city life. But when he begins to explore the forest surrounding the lodge, he discovers a living world full of secrets, strange creatures, and ancient magic. At the heart of the forest are Goldy, a golden-haired girl who believes she's part deer, and her silent brother — the White Deer, a mysterious guardian who keeps the forest in balance. But when the outside world begins to invade and disrupt the hidden lives of the animals, the delicate harmony of the Deep Forest starts to fall apart. To protect what's left, Howl and Goldy must confront forces beyond their understanding, and find their roles in a world where nature and myth are deeply intertwined. As their paths entwine, an unexpected bond begins to form, one that could shift the balance of the forest, and change both of them forever.

Director’s statement
This is a story I’ve carried since childhood. It’s rooted in summers I spent on an island—my first encounter with wilderness, animals, boredom, and a wild, fearless friend. She was everything I wasn’t: bold, loud, brave. Then one day, she was gone. But she stayed with me, becoming the voice that urged me forward whenever I needed courage.
This series is a tribute to that kind of friendship—intense, formative, unforgettable. Brother Deer reimagines an old fairy tale (The white deer by Vladimir Nazor) as a gentle story about connection between a lonely city boy and a feral girl from the forest. Two opposites who find trust and kinship.
In a world where childhood feels more isolated than ever, stories like this matter. They offer comfort, warmth, and quiet reflection on empathy—what happens when we listen instead of judge, reach out instead of turn away.
Visually, the series blends nostalgia and myth, using bold shifts in style—drawing from EXAT 51, the Zagreb School, and Slavic folklore in its sound and color. It’s a love letter to childhood summers, to the stories that carry us, and the friends who stay with us—even when they’re gone.
