A girl grows up ready to flourish on her own. Pressed by the reality of her fears, the heroine confronts her insecurities and, overcoming their influence, blooms.
A flower bud and its stem float in a dark space. Gradually the flower grows and begins to move upwards, opening its petals. The stem reaches its limit, resulting in the flower detaching from it and flying upwards on its own. The flower and stem take on the human appearance of a girl and her parents. Through various situations, the daughter tries to follow her inner urge for independence and separate herself from her parents, but this seems like an impossible task. The heroine realizes that she must deal with her prickly emotions and decides to face her fears. Finally, taking the first step towards her independence, she falls into the trap of her own projections. Surrounded by a multitude of plants, she sinks into their grasp and surrenders completely to their influence. The plants form a cocoon and embraced by its walls, she manages to overcome her insecurities and finds a way to accept them as part of herself. The girl metamorphoses into a butterfly-flower and flies away.
Director’s statement
Bloom's plot is presented through two parallel worlds, a metaphorical-internal world, in which only the flower and the stem exist, and an outer-real world where the flower takes its human form of a girl, and the stem of its parents. These two worlds intertwine continuously throughout the film, showing the relationship between them and the impact they have on the internal world of the protagonist (the girl-flower). My aim in this film is to experiment with images and visual concepts through a surreal prism, giving a dreamlike feeling and representing the main character’s projections, that she must overcome.
