About the First Tree

The short animated film "The First Tree" brings a strong message to the youngest viewers: good things come from love. Poetic story about searching for and finding friendship opens up a world of fantasy for children and playfully introduces the mystery of the birth of nature. It is the first film made using ALFONS technology, which combines stop-motion, CGI and artificial intelligence. The project is a co-production of four European countries.

Director’s statement
As a director whose lifelong focus is primarily on children, I like clear, understandable themes. The story of the search for interpersonal relationships is a theme for our lives that is understandable and at the same time poetic in a fairy tale.

The “tree” as such is a generally strong and understandable symbol. Because in this story, the tree was created thanks to the great love of two rocky beings, that is, two at first glance hard formations that are - seemingly - without emotions. And it is this paradox that stands at the birth of the tree and, in fact, all of the nature, which we can understand as the materialization of their strong love.

The project is also emotionally interesting to me because of the current social climate - love is disappearing and our surroundings are flooded with an atmosphere of selfishness, rudeness and vulgarity. These are all qualities that have never brought anything good to the world.
