Kids Are Everywhere! How Can Public Broadcasting Be Part of Their Day?

The way children watch content is changing fast. So what does a public broadcaster need from animation today?

DR’s bold decision to replace the long-running Disney Sjov slot with FredagsTamTam, putting Danish and Nordic animation at the centre of its Friday evening schedule a few years ago was one example of how the broadcaster is rethinking its approach to children’s content. But how is that thinking evolving further? Jonas Kryger Hansen, who leads strategy for DR's Children & Youth division, will look at how broadcasters are thinking about animation and children’s content in a world increasingly shaped by YouTube, TikTok, streaming platforms and changing viewing habits. What role can a public broadcaster play in this new landscape? What kind of content will it need in the future and what will it need from producers and creators? And how should broadcasters rethink their strategies to remain relevant to young audiences?
