The Returners

The Returners

In a future without war, fallen heroes are brought back to be honored. But when they’re asked to fight again—for a world they don’t know—not everyone is ready to obey.

In the future, people learn to resurrect their ancestors. As a tribute, soldiers from a key battle a century ago are revived—bodies restored minutes before death, minds incomplete. The centennial is celebrated with grandeur. After the fireworks fade, the resurrected try to adapt to a world they barely understand. Then a new war begins. At first, drones clash. But when enemy forces hack the control systems, chaos spreads. A bold mission is planned—and the resurrected soldiers are sent to war again. Each was revived in 26 copies, named A to Z. Kostya, a veteran, gets a few hours with his improved clone N, who remembers far more about their shared wife. Kostya hopes to use those memories to recreate her digitally. But N fears death—and refuses to hand over his most intimate memories. He escapes. Kostya takes his place on the mission. Meanwhile, N builds a replica of their wife using a local sex robot. Both men must face the unexpected fallout of their choices.
