The Bright Descendant

Svijetli Potomak

A blossoming young woman must overcome her role as victim to set her true potential free.

A blossoming young woman must overcome her role as victim to reach her full potential. The protagonist Živa communicated and explores herself through dance. She uses the potential of her sexual energy to create her own life. The idea of the film is to research how playing power games in society and director's own family suppresses true feminine potential and how that pattern transfers through generations. Živa is a game changer. Her moves are sharp and strong. The dominance changes. She now stands strong in front of the dark wave. The bright wave forms behind her. The waves crash on her, intertwining. Živa is lifted on the high top and the light illuminates her for a moment. The wave gently puts her back on the ground. She surrenders to integrated threads allowing them to wrap her all up

Director’s statement
“The Bright Descendant“ is the fruit of my personal journey towards self-realization. The main character Živa speaks and explores herself through dance. She uses the potential of her sexual energy to create her own life. I find it interesting how playing power games in society and my own family suppresses the true potential of the feminine and how that pattern transfers through generations. Živa is the game changer. The world of dark threads is her father wound. They are heavy, restrictive, authoritative, but at the same time protective. The world of bright threads is her vision of freedom and divine support to be who she truly is. The bright threads are soothing, healing and tender but seem to exist only in her imagination. Animation is a perfect medium to use to illuminate the problem of unhealthy balance between the masculine and the feminine and give it more public space. It is time for the divine feminine to shine in the world and call for integration.
