Psychoskop Tannenwald

Psychoskop Tannenwald

A short non-narrative movie fascinated Jizera Mountain landscape, its nonmaterial horizons and unexplored terrain of human spirit.

The Panorama program is just beginning. The camera slowly slides from side to side over the deserted scenery around Tanvaldský Špičák and the weather gradually changes ghostly – the film can therefore be described as a meteorological horror genre. From the dark depths of the Jizera Mountains forests, the main character comes, or rather flows, onto the scene: Fog. Television becomes a kind of “window” into the bleak distances outside. We see melancholic corners of deserted ski slopes, high-voltage poles, chimneys of abandoned factories in dark valleys. Hills and forests are increasingly shrouded in mists of impenetrable fog, which gives them a dreamlike dimension. Fog becomes the main protagonist: it moves through the landscape like a changing entity. It dissolves and absorbs the scenery, from which images of memories and ghosts emerge. And it almost looks like a translucent figure is emerging from the misty patches on the television screen.

Director’s statement
The mysterious multimedia film Psychoscope Tannenwald is one of the outputs of our several-year artistic experiment with the evocation of the "Spirit of the Jizera Mountains". It travels through the memory of the landscape of the Jizera Mountains and their foothills – the Tanvald Basin and the adjacent slopes.   And this with special attention to the supernatural plane, which is inherently part of the place and which is now in an advanced stage of disappearance.
