Cherry Pierogi

Вареники з вишнями

A young girl and her grandmother spend a carefree summer day in the countryside, where the small, everyday wonders of life lead to deeper reflections on resilience, love, and family heritage.

One day in the life of an old woman and her granddaughter, trapped in the memory like a dragonfly in a jar. The grandma and the little girl go to the fields by the river. While the grandma works in her potato field, the little girl plays: she catches a dragonfly, travels through the potato “jungle,” picks cherries. At the end of the day, they return home hauling the bicycle loaded with heavy sacks full of vegetables. At home, they have dinner, the granddaughter’s favorite cherry pierogi. The story is told through the eyes of a child who takes the carefree life around her as a given. But small details in the idyllic picture give clues to some not-so-happy events in the life of the old woman.
