Bouba & Kiki
Bouba & Kiki
In an old, forgotten cottage, two clay siblings argue over the smallest things – yet each time they find their way back to understanding, cooperation, and the joy of playing together.
Bouba & Kiki is a 13-episode animated series for preschool children (ages 3–5), exploring the dynamics of sibling relationships with humor and sensitivity. The two contrasting protagonists – playful, round and impulsive Bouba, and careful, sharp and rule-oriented Kiki – experience everyday situations in an old cottage that quickly turn into “big dramas.” Combining expressive clay animation with a mostly non-verbal narrative, the series focuses on emotions, visual literacy, acceptance of differences, and various ways of resolving conflicts. It blends strong playfulness, humor and emotional clarity with an educational dimension.
Director’s statement
We are an animation duo who have been creating and living together for many years, and recently also raising two young children. Although our previous work was not primarily aimed at children, we observed how naturally they respond to clay, color, rhythm, and transformation. This inspired us to create a project that speaks directly to them, while remaining true to our visual language. Bouba & Kiki is rooted in our everyday experience of family life and sibling dynamics—full of small conflicts, intense emotions, and quick reconciliations. Through simple, non-verbal storytelling, we explore how different perspectives can coexist and how conflicts can lead to understanding. Our goal is to create a series that is emotionally authentic, visually playful, and accessible across cultures, while expanding the expressive potential of contemporary clay animation.
