Animums

Animami

Ultimately, creation brought me back to my ego, to the renewal of the understanding that I do not exist only as a mother.

ANIMUMS is an authentic collective project by mothers-animators, who are on their parental leave. In their original short films, directors Veronika P. Szemlová, Adéla Kukalová, Vendula Velísková, Eva Babincová and Eliška Oz reflect a radical change in their lives, reveal the stunning world of their children and try to defend the need for their own creative work. At the same time, motherhood serves them as an inexhaustible well of inspiration, from which five stories, five angles of view, processed by various animation styles and techniques, emanate.

Director’s statement
Motherhood is a personal revolution that fundamentally changed my regime and priorities. My self almost disappeared in the children with whom I decided to spend virtually non-stop for three full years until they started kindergarten. The astonishing knowledge of the gift of life and the evolution of these amazing creatures changed my worldview and brought new self-knowledge. The future and the past have ceased to exist, with children there is only the present, solving immediate needs, caring for and providing for the household, perfecting the routine of the biggest and most demanding "project" of my life.
