Director Mascha Halberstad studied at the ArtEZ Art Academy in Arnhem. In 2012, she created the 3-part animated series Picknick with Cake based on the books of Thé Tjong-Khing, which was awarded the Cinekid Kinderkast Fiction 2013 jury prize.
Her film Munya in Me won the Grand Jury Prize at the BANFF festival. In 2015, Liam Howlett of The Prodigy asked her to direct the video clip for the song Wild Frontier. She then made several short films and the 26-part animated series Fox & Hare, which won the Cinekid Audience Award. Her first feature film Oink premiered in 2022 in the Berlinale Generation section, was screened at many international festivals and won three Golden Calves at the Dutch Film Festival in 2024.
