CEE Animation Talents 2021 Premiere 7 Promising Shorts

The CEE Animation Talents compilation is intended for the promotion and alternative distribution of the most talented young animation filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe. It aims to present the best short films made by young and debut artists in a given year internationally to a professional audience and the general public. The organisers count on the presentation of this compilation at selected film festivals but offer rights to online events as well. The premiere of the 2021 compilation will take place on 23 June at the Anifilm International Festival of Animated Films (22-27 June 2021).

The selection focuses on extraordinary talents whose work promises successful future careers. Rather than sales, its aim is to provide support for dissemination at film markets, among film distributors, sales agents and festival program directors. “The original purpose of creating this annual selection was to try to make the animation from the CEE region more visible abroad and help young filmmakers with their festival tours. This challenge is multiplied with the pandemic restrictions and limited possibilities to screen new animated works,” explains Jaroslav Kocourek, the project coordinator.

An expert board is compiled annually to select the best regional work produced that year. Festival artistic directors Annaida Orosz (Primanima, HU), Olga Bobrowska (Stoptrik, PL), Pavel Horáček (Anifilm, CZ), Ivana Sujová (Fest Anča, SK), Daniel Šuljić (Animafest Zagreb, HR) and Igor Prassel (Animateka, SI) participated in the selection.

In the 7-year history of this project, more than 40 short films were promoted, and almost 100 screenings took place around the world. “Our primary ambition is the year-round promotion of awareness of animation by young artists from CEE and assistance to its further development, visibility and distribution,” adds Jaroslav Kocourek.

CEE Animation Talents 2021 are composed of 7 short animated films without dialogue or with English subtitles. The 67-minutes compilation is targeted at adult audiences. The organisers offer this programme to festivals free of charge with availability for both – cinema projections and online screenings.
