CEE Animation Forum 2020: Report

The CEE Animation Forum ended successfully three weeks ago. It is the leading regional pitching, financing and co-production event focusing on the animation industry. This year, the pitching competition included 28 animated films in development – 10 shorts, 9 TV Series, 6 Features and 3 XR projects from 16 different countries.

In the first round of selection, these projects were carefully chosen from a total of 91 applicants by 10 preselection committee members coming from the CEE region. In the second round of selection, they were observed by four 3-member juries of international origin. The projects competed for four jury awards, one audience award and two training scholarships, while four of them were awarded with an accreditation or a direct selection to one of several different animation pitching or market events.

Although usually held in the Czech Republic parallel to Anifilm International Animated Film Festival, this year the CEE Animation Forum had to adapt to a hybrid form and was thus partly held online between 6 and 8 October.

Our Facebook Live Streams with pitchings and the Awards Ceremony were seen by 322 viewers and had a total reach of over 1300 people. Another 163 viewers saw our Vimeo catch up, while 369 registered participants from 35 different countries on the Meet To Match platform had 291 1:1 meetings. Apart from online events, we streamed pitchings to physical locations at Anifilm, International Animated Film Festival in Liberec, Czech Republic and to two universities – one in Bratislava, Slovakia and the other in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. We held a presentation of CEE Animation activities in an online session at Animarkt Stop Motion Festival.

Thank you for being part of CEE Animation Forum 2020!
