Anifilm & CEE Animation Forum Move to the City of Liberec

Some of you may have suspected it, we are now confirming it – beginning with next May, Anifilm International Festival of Animated Films together with CEE Animation Forum will be taking place in Liberec (Czech Republic).

Eighteen previous editions of Anifilm took place in the South Bohemian town of Třeboň, but after the last edition, the time has come to move. As you are all aware, our festival has been gradually growing and the picturesque spa town has unfortunately got its limitations that our festival team had to overcome,” explains Anifilm festival director Tomáš Rychecký. The level and capacity of the town with regards to screening spaces, accommodation and gastronomical options was no longer adequate for an international film festival and its guests. “Furthermore, the support our festival received from the town and region was incomparable to the support our colleagues in Jihlava and Zlín receive. And when the project of our planned House of Animation was cancelled by the Třeboň local authority, the situation didn’t improve,” adds Tomáš Rychecký.

After many meetings and visits of cities that could host the festival, the organizers can finally announce that the next edition of the Anifilm will take place from 5th to 10th May 2020 / CEE Animation Forum from 5th to 8th May 2020 in Liberec (Czech Republic). The representatives of the city and the Liberec Region have pledged their support to Anifilm and will provide suitable places for the festival and also financial support necessary for the organisation of an event of this scale. This will ensure not only further existence of the festival, but also its necessary development and growth in quality and scale.

The organizers would like to extend its sincere thanks to the city of Liberec and the Liberec region and in return offer the presence of an internationally respected cultural event that has attracted a number of regular guests, visitors, spectators and fans.
