TV Specials for Children: Who, what, how?

Join us for a panel discussion on the topic of TV Specials for children. We will explore an overview of the content, formats and financing and have a comparative discussion on the situation in France and Slovenia. With our guest experts we will discuss the role and expectations of broadcasters, the opportunities and struggles for producers and creatives and try to draw some conclusions about the emerging popularity of the TV Specials format.

This session is organized by the international platform CEE Animation in cooperation with Slovene Animated Film Association DSAF and Animateka International Animated Film Festival.

CEE Animation Experience is financially supported by Creative Europe MEDIA and International Visegrad Fund.

Slovene Animated Film Association (DSAF) is an animation guild, bringing together authors, producers, various film professionals and others with a view to representing our common interests in animated film in the national and international environment. Since foundation in 2011, we have been organising and executing many promotional activities aimed at the general and expert publics, building and conducting dialogue with public institutes and decision makers; we have been presenting the highest national industry awards for animated film, ensuring the exchange of information between our members, as well as organising meetings and gatherings for society members. In the national environment, we have been engaging with related organisations, since 2017 also as cofounders and members of the general assembly of the Alliance of Slovenian Associations of Filmmakers, the umbrella organisation for the audio-visual sector. We have also been forming ties abroad: as a leading partner in the CEE Animation international organization, we are responsible for projects enabling access to international markets, and educational events, which have also been supported by the European Commission.

Animateka International Animated Film Festival is an international festival that focuses on high quality auteur animated film. Every december it presents the peak production of short animated films from Central and Eastern Europe in our main competition programme, a programme comprising the most original European student films and a programme of carefully selected international films for children and teenagers. Each year it presents various special programmes as well. Either the best contemporary works from all parts of the world, a historical glimpse at different countries, animation techniques or other topics. From the very beginning Animateka holds national premiere screenings of a selection of the newest animated feature films. Audiences of all ages have the opportunity to enjoy a rich film programme and also an abundance of events such as talks with authors, masterclasses, round tables, a regional pitching session (all within the industry-oriented platform AnimatekaPRO), workshops, exhibitions, concerts and informal gatherings. Animateka’s goal is to be a focal point where professionals from both the region and the world can meet, to create collaborations and co-productions, and at the same time attract the interest of the local public and get them to fall in love with the art of animated film.
